Happy June, everyone!
In my book, “Mere Creativity: And also some Circus Skills,” I have a chapter talking about how it’s especially wonderful to combine 2 things, instead of just 1.
I’ve always thought of this in relation to color. I learned it for the first time when I was painting a poster about the Enneagram with an artist acquaintance of mine at the time. Any time I painted anything, if I wanted it to be blue, I would also add purple or green to it on the sides or as a highlight or lowlight. It just made the poster feel more rich and full of color.
I learned this again at a clowning convention I went to years ago called “MotionFest” run by a tightrope walker acquaintance of mine - Michael Rosman. We learned it was vital to do 2 things at once instead of just 1 thing. It’s much more interesting to the audience. You can think of any singing competition or musician you’ve seen - is it more interesting to watch 1 singer, singing acapella (alone) or is it better to see a singer who is also playing an instrument (piano or guitar) ?
Well, I have finally put these pieces of the puzzle together for me - to travel, as I have done for a long time, and to play violin - a renewed interest of mine! Taking videos of me in interesting places on my travels, while playing songs on my violin! Some of the songs will be my own compositions. Some are familiar tunes you may recognize, and others may be “the state song,” that most folks may not even know exists. 😆
I recently went on a trip to the western and northern United States. I keep losing track of how many states I went to. It was at least 10 or 11.
I recorded songs in every single one of them.
I look forward to sharing these videos, songs, travel notes and such over the next 10+ weeks!
I’ve also just booked a plane ticket and hotel for my next travel week - next week I’ll be visiting my kids in Virginia near Washington, DC. I’ll be taking my violin, too. 😉🎻
You can follow “The Traveling Violinist” on various social media sites including my TikTok, YouTube and Facebook pages. You can type #TheTravelingViolinist and see what comes up in your search.

During my travels west & north, I met a bunch of new people. I don’t think I’ve mentioned, that I have multiple copies of my books - “Mere Creativity” and “Simple Book of Shadows.” Neither book has page numbers in them! 😳 so, as far as I am concerned, they are misprints. I gave a few autographed copies of “Mere Creativity” to folks I met on my travels. I wish I had thought of it sooner!
So - this brings me to my newest offering : if you are willing to pay shipping, I will send you an autographed copy of my book. I’ll ship it “Media Mail,” which is the new equivalent of “Book Rate” with the USPS. Let me know who to autograph it to, and where to ship it. I can accept PayPal, Venmo, Zelle, Check, Facebook payments, and probably other forms of payment, too.
IF I send you one of my books, free, I would absolutely LOVE it if you would please write a review on Amazon. I’m of course hoping for 5 star reviews, but honest reviews are good too. I learn from every review. Clicking 5 stars and simply typing, “Good book” helps me so much.
Once a book reaches 50 reviews on Amazon, it’s propelled much higher on Amazon’s algorithms. Right now, it’s very hard to find my books on Amazon unless you know my author name (Jodi Rose Crump), I have found.
It would truly help me, in a very large way, to have reviews of my books on Amazon.
One last thing - you may have learned that SubStack has levels of newsletters from content creators. I’m thinking of offering perks to folks who sign up for my paid email list.
What kinds of perks would you like? Extra newsletters? A custom 8” x 10” painting of mine (you pick the colors).
A digitally edited photo of you, done by me of course, to look like a modern art piece? (That sort of thing takes me about 6 hours to do, so I don’t offer that lightly.)
A custom short story for you to keep / read / give as a gift to say, the love of your life, or children in your life?
Previews of books I’m writing?
If you have a business of yours and you would like to advertise it, we can also discuss how to do that together.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this newsletter!! Many more things coming around the pike from me. I look forward to sharing with you. 🩷🎨🎻
With appreciation,
Jodi
