I am a huge fan of my library and have held cards everywhere I have lived since I was in grade school. I am thankful to live in an area with a well-resourced, well-utilized libary. One additional benefit relating to this piece, is, similar to a woman escaping a controlling spouse, libraries also provide a peaceful space for kids with less than ideal home lives. Anyway, thank you for sharing this with us, I really enjoyed reading it!
Thank you for reading & commenting! This is one of my favorite posts I have written. And I continue to say this advice at least weekly & whenever I can, I point them to this newsletter, too, because it says so much more than I can ever say in a small Facebook comment!
I have owned and do own a lot of library cards in my life. I love books. I love libraries. I just love them. I moved to Kansas 2 years ago, and I have 3 library cards now from 3 different local libraries. 🤣
Thanks for writing this. I love my local library and everywhere I've lived the library has been a little part of things. All true stuff about tech making librarians less used - but hopefully there will always be a place for them. I enjoyed this and just subscribed.
I am happy to see how utilized my library is as I go almost weekly when holds come in. I do notice when a neighbourhood doesn't have a library or bookstore within walking distance.
That’s so great you go weekly & that you see it being used so frequently ! Because I have moved so often, I am now a library card holder at I think 4 different libraries now 🤣

Libraries and librarians are indeed a grossly underutilized source.
and they miss patrons, since the onset of the Internet. 💔
